Mathematics Lower Secondary

The curriculum framework of Mathematics in this level explores six content areas: number, algebra, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. The first five content areas are all underpinned by problem solving, which provides a structure for the application of mathematical skills. Mental strategies are also an important part of the number content. The curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships, so that learners apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.

Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work, and recording and analysing data. The scientific enquiry objectives underpin biology, chemistry and physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.

They also learn how to develop ideas from initial attempts to final solutions.

Foreign Language

Starting this School Year 2019-2020 Fatih Bilingual School provides opportunities for students to develop their interest in learning Turkish and Arabic. Students can determine their interests.

  • Turkish

Turkish belongs to the Turkic language family and is closely related to Azerbaijani, Gagauz and Turkmen. It is the official language of the Republic of Turkey and is also spoken in Cyprus, in various Balkan countries and in immigrant communities throughout the world. With more than seventy million speakers, Turkish is by far the largest Turkic language. Its rich literary culture stretches over centuries and continents.

This lesson emphasizes four language skills while introducing basic structures and sound properties of Turkish (vowel harmony, consonant harmony, voicing, etc). Students learn to talk and write about themselves, their likes and dislikes, their families, and their daily programs and activities. They are expected to give and follow directions, and describe places and neighborhoods. They learn to work with numbers and time.  The five cases of nouns and the structures built on these are used as the anchor of the course. Possession structures, comparative forms and various ways of asking questions are also emphasized.

  • Arabic

Arabic is the principal language of Islamic civilization and the key to understanding the modern Middle East. Various forms are spoken from North Africa to the borders of Iran, and as a literary language it is used throughout and far beyond this area. Owing to its sacred status it has exerted immense influence throughout the Islamic world. Arabic has a vast ‘classical’ and a varied and vital modern literature.

This lesson emphasizes the functional usage of Arabic in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Authentic audio, video, and reading materials are presented from the beginning, and students are encouraged to be creative with the language in and out of class. Also, this lesson builds basic skills in Modern Standard Arabic, the language read and understood by educated Arabs throughout the Middle East. No prior experience in Arabic is necessary. The texts and audio-visual materials used will introduce the student to various aspects of Arab and Islamic culture.

TAQ (Tahsin & Tahfiz Al Quran)

In our efforts to connect Fatih Bilingual School students with their faith, it is paramount to engender within them an understanding of the Qur’an that allows them to connect with it and embody its teachings. Furthermore, any healthy Muslim community has at its core an element that has memorized the Qur’an. We are proud to announce the launch of TAQ (Qur’an memorization) program. The program will help the students of Fatih Bilingual School to memorize portions of the Qur’an, or the entirety of it, through a curriculum that is customized to their individual ability.
