Corona Virus School Closures, Forcing Students Out of Classrooms: Moving to Fatih Home-Based Learning

Aceh Government ordered schools in Aceh to carry out home learning for at least two weeks due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Responding to the circular letter number 310 / FBS-4 / SB-C / III / 2020 about the school closures, Fatih Bilingual School had applied Fatih Home Based Learning activities (learning from home) starting from 19-30 March 2020. Additionally, high school examinations which were slated to be held on Monday 16 March 2020 will also be postponed until further notice. 

This program was created to provide direction to students to continue learning activities at home with the guidance of teachers. FBS also provides guidelines for implementing home-based learning, not only for students but also for parents. It aims to give parents a picture of what needs to be done every day to ensure that students keep studying at home and avoiding crowds. 

The most important thing from this Home Based Learning Program is moving students’ learning places from school with the guidance of the teachers to their homes and monitored by parents. The school strongly encourages parents or guardians to support this program for the student’s success in their online learning process and emphasizes to students that this period is not a holiday.

Fatih Home Based Learning is intended for all elementary-middle-high-school students of Fatih Bilingual School. It will be done by using several learning platforms such as; Google ClassroomZoom Meeting, Class Dojo, Edpuzzle. 

Mr. Iqbal as the teacher said that school is ready to do FHBL because all teachers have been given workshops about home-based learning, and there is also a seminar for students. He also said that the role of a homeroom teacher is also very important in guiding and helping with various difficulties while accessing this online learning platform.

“Hopefully, students can enjoy this home-based learning because it is fun and there are so many platforms and websites that can be used by teachers in order to do active learning”, He added.
