Australian Volunteers Teach English in Various Schools in Banda Aceh

Fatih Bilingual School and Department of Education and Culture of Banda Aceh invited the volunteers from Melbourne, Australia, to teach teachers and students in various schools in Banda Aceh.

Fatih Volunteer Teaching Program (FVTP) is a teaching program, integrated into teaching and learning activities in various schools and carried out by twelve volunteers who are students from Sirius College, Melbourne, Australia.

FVTP is started from January 16 to February 16, 2020. This program aims to introduce several methods to master English in a better way and teach the students how to communicate in English properly.

During the program, the volunteers teach English in several state schools in Banda Aceh; SDN 1, SDN 67 Percontohan, SMPN 19 Percontohan, SMPN 3, SMPN 7, SDN 16, SMPN 1, SMPN 2, SMPN 6, and other schools. This program gives a different learning atmosphere, especially in English skills by providing opportunities for students to interact directly with native speakers.

Furthermore, this activity is filled with various cultural programs through cultural orientation programs and other activities. The volunteers also visit many tourist destinations in  Aceh such as Banda Aceh, Sabang, and Takengon. This program also served to introduce Aceh as a tourist destination to the international level, especially to Australia.

The school hopes that this program can increase students’ interest and competence in learning English, broaden students’ mindset as well as foster a spirit of learning and tolerance.
